Housing

Pasila offers a wide variety of housing options, with all residential buildings located in proximity to public transportation routes. Although a majority of the proposed buildings will exist as office space, a considerable number of housing units will also be constructed.

As Pasila’s population is estimated to double over the next few decades, all manner of buildings that combine living and work are planned for the area. These include a number of impressive mixed use buildings reaching up to 40-stories high, which will accommodate both offices and homes.

The housing options offered in Pasila include a wide variety of rental and owner-occupied apartments. The style of construction enjoys a strong city flavour and is apartment-residential intensive. In future, there will be a wide selection of choices on offer: from exclusive, low-rise multi-family residences, to high-rise buildings with breathtaking views.

Services

As Pasila develops, new public services will become available in the area, with the supply of commercial services to increase further. These new services will mainly be located in the central blocks near the station.

At present, there are already several day care centres existing in Pasila, with also a primary school located in West Pasila. A new day care centre and a school will be built in both Central Pasila and in the proposed residential area to the north.

Other schools such as the Mäkelänrinne Upper Secondary School and the Alppila Comprehensive School and Upper Secondary School are servicing the neighbouring areas. Furthermore, one of the campuses of the Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences is also located in Pasila.

Public health services can be found in the East and West Pasila. In addition, at least one private occupational health centre may open in Central Pasila.

Sports and leisure

Pasila offers a number of excellent choices for spending one’s leisure time, with a sports park, a swimming centre and the Helsinki main library all located in the immediate area. Furthermore, the large Helsinki Central Park borders West Pasila, offering numerous opportunities for outdoor activities throughout the year.

Other activities can be found at The Helsinki Exhibition and Convention Centre, as well as at Hartwall Areena – Finland’s biggest sports and entertainment venue. Meanwhile, the historic Linnanmäki amusement park is also located nearby.

In future, Central Pasila will bring yet another alternative for spending leisure time with a number of different shops, restaurants, cafés and other services, attracting both residents of Pasila and visitors to the precinct.

Numerous sports facilities

Hugging West Pasila, Helsinki Central Park offers excellent opportunities for outdoor sports and recreation, including allotment gardens, an archery track and a sports hall, as well as both indoor and outdoor horse riding fields and tracks.

In East Pasila, there is a sports park with football fields and tennis courts, and also offers opportunities to ice skate in the winter. A velodrome and the largest indoor swimming pool in Finland are also situated in the area.
