Whilst already proving to be an ecologically sustainable choice for both individuals and companies, Pasila strives to become even more so in the near future, with the densification of the area seeing the construction of high-rise buildings for the first time in Finland. Furthermore, the area will enjoy very effective public transport facilities, with the City planning to improve upon current services.
As Helsinki encourages sustainable construction, ecological design is one of the four main criteria in Pasila Centre’s “Design-Build-Own” competition.
Furthermore, landowners shall carry out a comprehensive cleaning of the soil, forming an important stage of the building process. According to recent soil tests, the area of the railway yard in Central Pasila is slightly contaminated in many places – though none of the levels are very high. The soil will be thoroughly cleaned before other construction work begins.
