Enter the Helsinki New Horizons photo and video contest

The City of Helsinki organises a photo and video contest in the spirit of the website Helsinki New Horizons. We hope to receive pictures and videos of real situations of living in the different neighbourhoods of Helsinki.

The photo and video contest continues all summer, from 1 June 2018 to 31 August 2018.

How to enter

Photographs: Post your picture on Instagram and add the hashtags #uuttahelsinkiäkuvakisa as well as the name of the neighbourhood depicted, for example #kalasatama or #haaga. If you wish, you can also describe in more detail what the picture portrays or what the situation in the picture is.

Videos: The format of the video can be avi, mp4, mpeg, mov, flv, f4v or wmv. Submit the video through the

1. A gift token worth 300 euros to a shop of your choice
2. A gift token worth 200 euros to a shop of your choice
3. A gift token worth 100 euros to a shop of your choice

Videos:

1. A gift token worth 300 euros to a shop of your choice
2. A gift token worth 200 euros to a shop of your choice

Helsinki Neighbourhoods Association Helka will also award grants of 200 euros and diplomas to the makers of the Helka jury's favourite picture and video clip.

Housing and land use monitored by City Council

The Helsinki City Council discussed a new report on a programme for housing and related land use at the Council meeting of 16 May 2018. The programme was approved by the City Council in June 2016. The progress of the programme and changes in the programme’s operating environment are reported to the City Council annually.

The population of Helsinki grew by 8,091 in 2017, that is, by 1.3 percent. The volume of residential construction has grown at a record rate.

The tram depot and housing units in Yliskylä, Laajasalo form a whole

A depot for the tramline Crown Bridges is planned to be built in Laajasalo. Housing units will also be built in connection to the depot. The winning entry in the architecture contest for this so-called hybrid depot was made by Anttinen Oiva Arkkitehdit Ltd. The winning proposal, called Scapes, consists of pentagonally shaped blocks of varying height. The building process will be commenced in the beginning of the 2020s.

City Board proposes sale of Jätkäsaari’s Bunkkeri to SRV Construction

The Helsinki City Board proposes to the City Council that the Bunkkeri property in Jätkäsaari be sold to SRV Construction Ltd and that the proposed agreements concerning sports facilities, a swimming hall and residences to be constructed in Bunkkeri by SVR be approved. The sale price would be 22.7 million euros.

Helsinki Publishes Energy and Climate Atlas on 3D City Model

The 3D atlas is a tool for implementing energy efficiency improvements in buildings

The City of Helsinki has compiled extensive energy-related data on the Helsinki building stock into Energy and Climate Atlas and makes the atlas available as open data. The atlas is executed and visualized on Helsinki’s 3D city information model, which allows easy utilization and further application of the data. The atlas is a part of the toolkit that helps Helsinki to cut carbon dioxide emissions and eventually to reach carbon neutrality.
